Welcome!
Welcome to the Embodied Mindfulness for Performers Research Project Website!
We have been developing mindfulness based performer training for our D/deaf and hearing actors at Equal Voices Arts. This website houses some of the foundational practices we use to cultivate our performers’ embodied awareness.
Principal Investigator and MSCA Fellow Dr Laura Haughey has been working alongside a Deaf research team: Denise Armstrong (UK), Rāhera (Rachel) Turner (Aotearoa New Zealand) and Thora Hübner (Germany/Aotearoa NZ) to develop these accessible resources and we are excited to share them here.
We have been blessed to work with wonderful supervisors for this project: Dr Deborah Middleton and Dr Ben Spatz (University of Huddersfield). Dr Deborah Middleton is a renowned Mindfulness Mentor and Dr Ben Spatz is an acclaimed leader in the development of artistic and embodied research. The research team would like to extend deep heartfelt gratitude to both supervisors for coming on this journey with us. Thanks also to the University of Huddersfield as host institution for this MCSA Fellowship project.
These practices form the foundation of our performer training, but they have also been designed to be used for general wellbeing purposes also.
This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant agreement No. 896657, and was based at the University of Huddersfield (UK). Work also took place in Aotearoa New Zealand.
We’d love to hear what you think!
