Core Practice

Mindful Walking

You can take a mindful walk anywhere.

Take a walk in your building, or, if you can, go outside into nature.

In our normal lives, we miss so much because we are lost in our thoughts.

We miss the beauty right in front of us.

This activity brings our body and our senses to the present moment.

For this practice, walk slowly.

Connect with the ground beneath your feet.

Detach from the thoughts in your head.

Direct your attention to what you can see here and now, in this moment.

Look closely.

At the detail.

Receive everything around you. Don’t label what you see.

Just ‘see’ it.

No judgement of ‘good’ or ‘bad’.

Just see and feel and be present to receive sights, sounds (if hearing) and sensations.

Feel your body in motion.

Thoughts may emerge and distract you. Simply notice.

And gently, bring your attention back to your eyes and body, and how it feels.
